Think-Aloud Playtest - World of Warcraft

Personal Project (Not Affiliated with Blizzard Entertainment Inc.)

What I learned

  1. Recruitment Scheduling: Plan for more time than you think you'll need. Estimating the time needed to complete a playtest is difficult. I first played through the task list myself to determine an estimated time length for each task. However, in reality, one participant spent much less time than I did on character creation, and spent much more time completing the quest tasks.
  2. Test Equipment: Channel the mic and audio through one program, like OBS (Open Broadcaster Software). I used different devices to record the participant and moderator (myself), without using audio cables to route them together. This makes editing way more difficult than it needs to be. It pays to take the time to setup a proper recording (and potentially streaming) network.
